Defence Minister of the Maldives Mariya Didi has stated that there is no reason for India to worry over Maldives anymore.
Speaking to ANI News of India, Mariya said that the people of Maldives wants to establish relations with democratic countries like India and hence there is no reason for India to worry over Maldives now.
“The government of India and Maldives believes in the same values” said Mariya.
Speaking about China, Mariya said that China is an important development partner of Maldives but the government of Maldives wants to strengthen relations with India instead of China. Mariya said that India respects the sovereignty of Maldives.
This is Minister Mariya’s first trip abroad after assuming the position of Defence Minister. She will return to Maldives on 30th January.
