Speaker of the parliament, Qasim Ibrahim has advised to pursue education and to invest in self development in order to develop the nation.
Qasim made this call while speaking at the gala night held to give Maldives Business Awards. Qasim was awarded a life time achievement award at the ceremony.
He said that the business sector of Maldives progressed to what it is today, with the hard work of many people who lacked any formal expertise. He said that they faced various challenges over the years. He said that in today’s globalized world, it is important to have an education and get practical experiences if we want to succeed and be competitive globally.
Qasim said that the senior businessmen in Maldives are now old and they will retire soon. “When we started our work, the life expectancy of an average Maldivian was 40 to 45 years. Today it is between 60 to 65 years. Today’s young generation will have to sustain this development we brought” said Qasim.
“We have facilitated ways to develop the country using modern technology and resources” said Qasim. Qasim said that so far the sovereignty of the country has always been intact and called everyone to refrain from any act that can undermine the independence and sovereignty of the Maldives.
“No one has that right. This responsibility which we got from our ancestors should be passed to our decedents in a better form” said Qasim.
Qasim said that since we have advanced technologically and in various other ways, it will be easier to sustain the development which was brought during a difficult time. He said that everyone should do what they can do for their country instead of looking for what the country can do for them.
