Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed expressed assurance to the people that the Supreme Court bench will not do anything which will bring harm to Maldives.
Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed made this remark at the high level talk held with Maldives Police Commissioner to discuss ways to fast-track cases involving obstruction of duty and attacks on law enforcement officials.
Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed is cited as saying that he places great priority on ensuring the protection that law enforcement officials need to carry out their duty. He said that priority should be always given to the nation.
Newly-appointed Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed took part in the meeting held at the Supreme Court premises along with Justices Ali Hameed and Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi.
The Chief Justice noted that extensive work has previously been done with the police and noted that the nation is more important than one civilian and the court would not do anything that might tarnish the nation.
He said that the police do valuable work and they should have full security and safety as enforcers of the law.
The Commissioner noted that assaulting an officer of the law is a very serious crime in developed countries. He also highlighted the importance of having more effective methods to expedite cases regarding assaults on officers and obstructing their duties.
The Commissioner also assured that the justice system will have the full assistance of the police at all times.
