The Government of Malaysia has pledged USD 200,000 to the Male’ Water Crisis Management Fund. The decision was conveyed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Anifah bin Haji Aman, in a letter addressed to the Foreign Minister of Maldives Dunya Maumoon last week.
In his letter Foreign Minister Aman expressed solidarity of the Government of Malaysia with the Government and people of Maldives due to the challenges faced by the water crisis and stated that it is in this spirit that contribution of USD 200,000 was made.
Maldives and Malaysia share historical bonds of brotherly relations that is based on mutual respect and goodwill. The two countries have always lent support to one another both bilaterally and in the global arena.
Responding to the Malaysian Government’s financial assistance, Foreign Minister Dunya expressed the Maldivian Government’s sincere appreciation for the prompt response and support provided to the people of Maldives. She remarked that “Malaysia remains a true friend of the Maldives”.
