Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has said that it is saddening that Maldives is starting to get negative comments from international bodies.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark speaking at the special ceremony which was held in Paradise Island Resort to celebrate the membership of the Madaveli constituency member Muaz Mohamed - the only member in the Peoples Majlis who did not represent any political party to Jumhooree Party.
Gasim said that international organizations are starting to take the judiciary in the Maldives from a different perspective, and that if that persists, the country is apparent to receive international scorn and disdain instead of praises.
He said that the reason for these negative comments is because the international bodies are looking at the Maldivian judiciary with scrutiny.
Gasim added that this has resulted in Maldives receiving heated criticism instead of motivational praise or constructive opinion which is very worrying.
Meanwhile, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal who recently visited Maldives stated in her statement that challenges such as judicial independence and instances of politically-motivated threats still remain in the Maldives.
