Deputy Mayor of Male’ City Council, Shifa Mohamed has said that it is the people who will suffer in the end because of the consequences of the unlawful actions of the government opposing the decentralization act.
Shifa Mohamed made this remark in an interview to Miadhu Daily following the decision of the government to take over some of the responsibilities of the Male’ City Council.
Shifa said that the government is taking all of the authority of the Male’ City Council granted by the decentralization Act.
She said that the people will be the ones who will be suffering in the end as a consequence of these actions of the government against the city council. She said that the council is left so powerless that it is now in the brink of being dissolved.
Shifa said that the city councils and island councils have been given constitutional power however the government is depriving them of all their powers.
