Parliament members have noted that only 23 billion Rufiyaa can be used from the 2019’s budget even if 29 billion was proposed. That is because 4 billion will be spent to repay external debt.
They did not specify the amount of internal debt however last year it was 1.2 billion and the MPs estimate that it will be more this year.
The members noted that due to the increase in debt, it will be challenging to conduct PSIP programs.
