Speaker of the parliament, Qasim Ibrahim have said that the people of Maldives should not be despaired and that he will bring prosperity to the country in accordance with the constitution of the Maldives.
Speaking to the press after he was elected as the speaker with a huge majority, Qasim said that the members of the parliament bestowed him with a huge responsibility. He said that he will fulfil the responsibility in accordance with the principles of Islam and the constitution of the Maldives. Qasim said that he will act in a manner which will be beneficial for the whole country. Qasim vowed to bring the democratic environment desired by the people of Maldives.
Qasim thanked the leaders of the joint opposition for supporting him to become the speaker of the parliament. “I thank all the leaders, President Nasheed, President Maumoon and Sheikh Imran. Also especially I thank the President-elect Ibrahim Mohammed Solih for the work he has been doing since the beginning. I thank Faisal Naseem and all other parliament members as well. I pray that the Maldives and its people will see better days ahead” said Qasim.
Qasim assured President-elect that he will give full support to his government to eradicate corruption from Maldives and to bring prosperity to the country.
Qasim said that the reason for all this development is the decision made by the people on 23rd September. “It shows that the people of Maldives will not accept injustices, theft, oppression and unfairness. Especially that the people will not accept lawlessness” said Qasim.
