Keyodhoo constituency MP, Sheikh Moosa Nizar has said that the money taken from the people on the claims of giving services to the people should be distributed equally.
Speaking at the Peoples’ Majlis yesterday, MP Nizar said that regardless of who is in the government, the people should be always treated equally without making any distinctions.
He said that he supports taking taxes from some commodities to generate income for the state to provide basic services to the people to increase their self sufficiency.
“I believe that taking duties from the people is good when considering the purpose. However, when more income is generated for the state with the taking of these taxes, we should consider whether the income generated is distributed equally. This is what we should think about. Many populations live near Male’. When all these duties are taken from islanders and when the income increases by billions of dollars, the services given to them are still as before. They are in the same state as before,” he said.
Sheikh Moosa Nizar said the services provided to the people by the government are still not efficient and good enough when considering the income generated.
