Deputy Parliamentary Group leader of the Jumhooree Party, Kinbidhoo constituency MP, Abdulla Riyaz has said that jobs for foreign workers should be defined by law.
Abdulla Riyaz noted that the government has promised to generate more jobs and jobs are increasing in the private sector and not in the civil commission.
“The government’s vows include the job opportunities for the youth. The government is not getting bigger. We do not see the civil service jobs increasing. It is the private sector which is generating more jobs,” he said.
Riyaz noted that the immigration policy should be seen when the private sector generates job trade. “We should categorize and allocate the jobs foreign workers can be employed for,” he said.
“There are many foreigners working as teachers. The question is what have we been doing to replace them with local teachers? We see many foreigners working in the private sector as accountants. What is the policy of the government to replace them with Maldivians? We want to know that,” he said.
Abdulla Riyaz noted that not much has been done to replace these foreigners with Maldivians. He said that the government should publicize their policy to reduce the number of foreign workers in Maldives.
