The Government of Japan provided a grant of Japanese Yen 100 million (approximately 13 million Maldivian Rufiyaas) to the Government of Maldives under the “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese SME’s Products for 2014”, for procuring a range of essential SME products manufactured by Japanese small and medium sized enterprises (SME).
The purpose of this grant scheme is to support the promotion of economic and social development goals of Maldives by utilizing the uniquely efficient and user-friendly technology of Japanese SME’s.
The products provided under this grant scheme were selected by the Government of Maldives in consultation with the line agencies concerned. Previously in December 2013, Japan provided grant funds amounting to Japanese Yen 200 million to the Government of Maldives under the same scheme to procure a wide range of medical equipments for use by needy regional and Atoll hospitals and improve the quality of health services to the people. The Government and the people of Japan hope that the SME products provided would be effectively utilized to improve the living conditions of the people in the islands.
The signing of the Exchange of Notes took place between H.E. Mr. Nobuhito Hobo, Ambassador of Japan to Maldives and Hon. Ms. Dunya Maumoon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Male.
