Jumhooree Party leader, Gasim Ibrahim has said that the High Court or the Supreme Court has the authority to decide on the decision of the Peoples’ Majlis to remove Chief Justice Ahmed Faiz and the Supreme Court judge Mutasim Adnan.
Gasim Ibrahim made this remark speaking to the press following the sitting of the Majlis held today. He said that the case is filed at the High Court and therefore it is the High Court which will decide on the matter.
“The Supreme Court rejected the case because the welfare of the Supreme Court is involved in the case,” he said.
He said that the Jumhooree Party’s four members pushed the “red” button during today’s vote taken in the Majlis as they do not believe in the legitimacy of such a vote.
He said that the PG group took a vote regarding the matter and decided that the members will be free to decide whether to participate or not.
He said that from the PG group’s 12 members, 11 members participated in the sitting. “Mohamed Hussein is not in town so he could not participate. Two members did not participate in the vote. Some voted in favour,” he said.
Gasim Ibrahim said that he does not want to comment on a matter when the Majlis has made a decision. He said it is the Court which will have a say regarding the decision of the Majlis.
