Jumhooree Party leader, Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim has called the authorities to take taxes by providing the means for the tax payers.
Gasim made this remark in the Peoples’ Majlis speaking regarding the different taxes included in the budget.
He said that there is nothing wrong in taking taxes for good uses but feasibility studies should be conducted before introducing in taxes.
Gasim Ibrahim said that the taxes taken from tourists should also be taken considering any damages that it can do to the tourism industry. He said that assessments should be done to any damages that might result from it.
He said that there are many investors in Maldives who have made large investments and with the introduction of these new taxes given the fact that taxes are exempted in special economic zones, the difficulties these investors will face should be considered and researched.
Gasim said that this research should be done if it is not already conducted. He said that he is proposing this to save the country from any imminent economic dangers that these taxes might cause.
