Spokesperson of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Imthiyaz Fahmy has said that MDP will hold protests at the closest allowed place to protest near the Peoples’ Majlis.
Speaking to Miadhu Daily, Inthi said that MDP will hold protests near the Peoples’ Malis today against the changes brought to the Supreme Court bench.
He said that the protests will be held near the Majlis as it was the Majlis which decided to unlawfully remove two judges of the Supreme Court bench.
He said that all members of the MDP will push the red button today in the Peoples’ Majlis.
“All members will attend the sitting and will push the red button. We will make the members of the Majlis hear the plea of the people and what they want,” he said.
While the MDP announced to hold protests near the Majlis, it is prohibited by law to protest near the Majlis.
Police yesterday arrested pick up driver and another person for calling the public to hold protests at a place where it is banned from holding protests as per the constitution.
