Vote cannot be taken since the Act according to which the judges were removed is against the law- Shaheen
Famous lawyer Shaheen Hameedh has stated that a vote cannot be taken regarding the removal of the judges based on the recent amendment to the Judicature Act since this amendment brought to the Act is against the law.

In an interview to Miadhu Daily, Shaheen said that the Act according to which the Peoples’ Majlis decided to remove two judges is against the law.

Shaheen said that there are certain principles and guidelines regarding the procedure of the removal of judges and any Act that is passed in opposition to the general principles.

Shaheen said that there will be many complications if the number of judges is removed by amending the constitution. He said that the constitution does not give the Majlis the authority to remove any judge but it is the JSC who are responsible for it.

He said that it is not acceptable that the Majlis decided on the matter and handed over the choice to remove the judges to the JSC.

Shaheen said that the decision to remove the two judges of the Supreme Court was made to deprive the rights of a certain people.
