President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has yesterday ratified the First Amendment Bill to the “Judicature Act” [Law no: 22/2010].
At the Twenty Fourth Sitting of the Third Session of the People’s Majlis, the Bill on Amendment to the Judicature Act (22/2010) was passed with 46 votes in favour. There were 19 votes against, and 1 abstention.
The Bill was presented to the Majlis floor by Chair of the Committee on Independent Institutions, Ali Saleem, MP for Funadhoo.
3 Members spoke during time allocated for debate at yesterday’s Sitting.
The Bill was sent for Committee review on 2 December 2014 at the Twenty First Sitting of the Third Session of the People’s Majlis.
The President also ratified Bill on Transferring Prisoners, First Amendment Bill to the Protection of Children’s Rights Act [Law no: 9/91]. Following ratification, the three bills have been published in the Government Gazette.
